To put it simply, Gerta’s life was full of dissatisfaction.What was Gerta’s life like during the time of the Berlin Wall?.Now I would like to answer my Inquiry Questions: Every little detail was thought out, in the storyline and in the presentation of the book, and it made it so much more enjoyable to read. One thing I thought was super neat about the book was before every chapter there would be a quote and when I would go back to skim the chapter after reading it while I wrote the chapter posts, I realized that the quotes were directly linked to what happened in the chapter. I also felt this book was realistic while still allowing Gerta her happy ending. You’d think it would get boring with how long they have to dig for, but I was interested the whole time. It was very well-written and kept my attention. They make finish the tunnel and escape to West Berlin. With the help of other friends, acquaintances, and their mother, Gerta and Fritz dig their tunnel until they meet their father halfway. Her father was a known government-rebellion, so this puts a target Gerta’s family’s back. After taking signals from her father and with the help of her brother, Fritz, Gerta begins to dig a tunnel under the wall and the death strip to freedom in West Berlin.
